Finlandia Foundation National’s Speaker of the Year
Dr. Carl Rahkonen (ethnomusicologist, and teacher at Indiana University) will speak on historic ethnic music and instruments - the kantele - especially. His grandfather played Finnish folk music on his fiddle and harmonica. He inherited his great-grandfather’s fiddle, which became his way to explore the magic of old Finnish tunes, and deepen his understanding of their music as a distinctive folk tradition. His ability to discuss, demonstrate, lecture, and play instruments, captivates audiences.
